Design schools, teach you how to create good designs and solve problems. What most don’t teach, is that to do great you also need to be able to deal with many types of people.
In your career, you will encounter many people with different personalities, values, beliefs, motivations, etc. These people could be colleagues, clients, co-workers or stakeholders(bosses). The ability to be able to determine what type of person you are dealing with during meetings, pitches and conversations is an important skill to have.
Being able to identify a person’s (let’s call it quirk as I do not have a word for it) will allow you to adjust your communication style and be able to better bond or relate to the person. The ability to adapt depending on the person you are speaking to could at times be the difference between getting your design ideas approved or denied.
